United Arab Emirates : Dubai RTA offers Phases II and III of LRT system's extension
Publish Date : 07-Jan-2017
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has offered Phases II and III of the extension of the city's Light Rail Transit system to French engineer Systra and American firm Aecom.
The 14 month deal covers transport planning, preliminary design and invitations to tender.
Serving the city's main attractions which includes Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Burj Al-Arab, as well as the Mall of Emirates (MOE), Phase II of the tram will have 9 stations and measure nearly 6km in length.
The MOE is linked with the project zone via the Red Line metro station, on the opposite side of Sheikh Zayed Road.
Phase II is part of the master plan for Jumeirah Central Project, managed by Dubai Holding.
Phase III will serve the Jumeirah Beach Road to the north-west of Dubai, measure 16.6km in length and contain 19 stations.
The route crosses already launched projects, like a new one-way road system.
The area between Jumeirah Road and the Al Wasl district is also undergoing redevelopment, and will be consolidated into the feasibility study for Phase III's design.
Systra has earlier worked on Phase I of the Dubai tram which opened in November 2014.
