In a bid to relieve the city's heavy traffic, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality held a tender to build monorail (Havaray in Turkish), an air rail transportation service, between the districts of Sefakoy and Basaksehir on the European side.
The project proposed to run through the districts of Kucukcekmece and Basaksehir will feature 17 stops and be integrated with other railway systems in these districts.
The results of the tender for which six firms submitted bids will be declared after the tender files are reviewed.
The government is launching new projects to relieve heavy transportation in Istanbul, which has the busiest vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the world.
The Havaray project is aimed at easing traffic congestion on the E5 highway passing through the Beylikdz-Bak rkoy route, one of the busiest urban traffic lines.
The project will allow to reduce traffic jams in the Sefakoy and Halkal districts on the European side.
The air rail, which will stretch from Sefakoy to Basaksehir and run through the district of Kucukcekmece, will be 15 kilometers long.
