A Stafford village-based food packaging manufacturer has been successful to win a major export deal worth some hundred thousand pounds in the US market, representing its first such order in the US.
With the receipt of this export deal, the excited Norbury-headquartered B&G Products Ltd is getting ready to begin production of its pioneering food pouch for the retail trade in partnership with Sirane and TCL Packaging.
B&G Products this accomplishment can be attributed to the company's Chicago trip in last October as a member of the first Midlands Engine trade mission of the Department for International Trade (DIT). The company's directors Peter Ralten and Nick Baxter were also part of this delegation.
During this visit to Chicago, the B&G Products directors had also made a trip to Sun Centre USA's Chicago-based plant to find a new pouch machine to create the packaging.
Then they have decided to make a six-figure investment in the procurement of new machinery from the US-based manufacturing company. The company will be able to carry on its expansion scheme with the receipt of export order from the US market.
B&G in 2016 has recorded a growth of over 20% in turnover, while projection for the next year is over 30%.
The company, which has now 27 employees, is also optimistic that there will be generation of as many as nine new production jobs over the next 1.5-year phase.
Mr. Ralten disclosed, "Everything has happened so quickly since participating in the trade mission, which is great news for us. We decided to take part because we wanted to show our newest products to the sector and also to source a factory that could provide the machine so that we could assemble the new food pouch.
"Within days of us ordering the machine, we also received our first major export order and we are looking forward to starting production within the next few weeks and supplying our new customer. It goes to show just how valuable these trade missions can be. Without the DIT, our UK and US partners, this deal would not have been possible."
The DIT Acting Director of Exports & Investment for the Midlands Ian Harrison commented, "This is a significant deal for B&G, which safeguards the company's future and also enables it to invest in local jobs. We are particularly pleased that the trade mission was the catalyst for this export win because it demonstrates that visits such as these really do make a positive impact."
