Eng. Ziyad Bin Mohammed Al-Shiha, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Electricity Company, explained that the partnership agreement to create the "Green Saudi Company for Carbon Services" represents an important step on the road to emission reduction and pollution control, within the Kingdom Vision 2030, and the National transformation Program 2020, stressing that the Environmental Health programs applied by the Saudi Electricity Company years ago, the software technology used to reduce dependence on fuel, the technical standards observed in the power plants, and the transition to the combined cycle system, contributed collectively to create a solid ground and accumulated experience for the company in dealing with the environmental issues, renewable energy and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Shiha added on the sidelines of the signing ceremony at SEC headquarters that all the steps for establishing the Green Saudi Company for Carbon Services, has the support of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, as well as the National Committee for the Clean Development Mechanism, especially since its a part of the system and international responsibility of the Kingdom to contribute to the decline carbon emissions, according to what was presented at the Paris and Marrakech climate conferences.

The CEO of Saudi Electricity Company revealed that one of the most important objectives for establishing the Green Saudi Company for Carbon Services is to carry out the registration of clean energy projects and carbon emission reduction programs within the United Nations Program for Climate Change, which aims to fix the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent serious damage to the climate system, as well as issuing and marketing of certificates of carbon emission reduction, resulting from these projects for the benefit of national and private companies, in regional and global markets alike, which will support clean energy projects and take advantage of the money returns for such certificates.

It is worth mentioning that the actions and initiatives launched by the Saudi Electricity Company for pollution control and emission reduction has succeeded over 2016 in saving more than 24.8 million barrels of fuel equivalent and 13 million barrels of diesel, as a result of improved thermal efficiency of the electrical system, including the plans to convert units of simple cycles to combined cycles in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and combat pollution of the environment, which the company puts at the top of its priorities with the launch of its Accelerated Strategic Transformation Program (ASTP) about three years ago.
