United States : Port Authority offers contract for rail infrastructure upgrades at Greenville Yard

Publish Date : 21-Feb-2017

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced that it has offered a $52.4 million contract to Union Paving and Construction Co., Inc. of Mountainside, N.J. to upgrade the Greenville Yard.

The deal is for rail infrastructure upgrades at the Greenville Yard to support the Port Jersey ExpressRail facility being constructed by the container terminal GCT USA; and for work on the port authority's New York/New Jersey rail carfloat operation at the yard.

Rail cars are transported by the carfloat through a floating barge between the Greenville Yard and the 65th Street Terminal in Brooklyn.

The project provides for the expansion of Greenville Yard, the building of lead tracks, receiving and departure tracks, support tracks and related turnouts and crossovers, yard lighting, fencing, paving, storm drains and power, water and sanaitary sewer services.

The project will support the new Port Jersey ExpressRail facility, for which the ground was broken in December. The Port Authority provided up to $56 million for that project, which it said will have an annual capacity of 430,000 TEUs.
