Publish Date : 14-Mar-2017

The Rail & Transit squad of the Montreal-based engineering services company SNC-Lavalin has been successful to win a fleet management contract in the US.

The SNC-Lavalin squad has secured the contract from the Illinois Department of Transportation (DoT) for the supervision of maintenance and operation of next-generation high-speed rail equipment.

The SNC-Lavalin Rail & Transit Engineering VP (North America) Kevin George commented, We are proud to have been awarded this project, which draws upon our extensive fleet management experience.

"The US is a key growth area for Rail & Transit and were delighted to be providing expertise in the region."

The contract worth $4.8m has been awarded for an initial three-year term, with expansion option for another three years, taking the combined value of the deal to $14m.

The latest fleet will have a minimum of 33 new locomotives and as many as 88 new bi-level cars.

The new fleet will facilitate replacement of the existing machines, which have been acquired from a different service provider on lease.

The US States of Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin will be the joint owner of the equipment procured.

SNC-Lavalin in January 2017 had received a pair of rail and transit contracts in the US market.

The Canadian engineering services company won the first contract, a five-year deal worth $13.7m, for the delivery of engineering and administrative consultancy support services for electric locomotives and multi-level cab and coach car procurement projects. This contract has been awarded by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

SNC-Lavalin secured the second contract from the Purple Line Transit Partners to design, construct, finance, as well as operate and maintain the Purple Line project.
