The Board of Directors of the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF) has agreed to deliver $242.6 million in financial support to help develop a number of development projects intended for combating poverty across eight member states of Tajikistan, Sudan, Djibouti, Niger, Mauritania, Cameroon, Uganda and Guinea.
The LLF, the Middle East-based largest multilateral development initiative of the Riyadh-headquartered Islamic Development Bank (IDB), has approved the money to support healthcare, agriculture and rural infrastructure projects.
The LLF board had convened its meeting to select projects with potential to impact in the highest level towards fight against poverty alleviation and diseases in Muslim nations, with the aim of facilitating improved life style for the targeted communities.
The President of the IDB Dr. Bandar Hajjar has stated that the LLF is focused to proceed with its job to support the most deprived communities in the Muslim world so that they can enjoy healthier and more productive lives through investments into the areas of healthcare, agriculture and rural infrastructure.
He added, By combining grants from donor institutions and IDB loans, we are seeking to provide more financial assistance to fight disease and poverty across the Muslim world compared to what grants can achieve alone.
Assistant General Supervisor (Operations & Programs) at the King Salman Center for Humanitarian Relief Maher Al-Hadrawi revealed, The second meeting of the LLF executive board represents an important milestone in the progress of this noble initiative. In March 2017, we succeeded in launching the first project by the fund to support the efforts of the Senegalese government to fight and eradicate malaria.
The Adviser to the Royal Court and general supervisor of the King Salman Center for Humanitarian Relief and Works had inaugurated the board meeting of the LLF.
The representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development were present at the meeting.
This is the funds second executive board meeting after its creation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
