Cote Dlvoire,Zambia : ZAMBIA: Government to offer US$50m in AFDB Funds to the countrywide small-scale fish farmers
Publish Date : 14-Apr-2017
The Government of Zambia has announced that it has started procedure for the nationwide distribution of loan funds worth US$50 million extended by the African Development Bank (AfDB) involving the small-scale fish farming community of the country.
The Livestock and Fisheries Minister Michael Katambo, in the meantime, has advised people engaged in the fish farming business to obtain application forms from the offices of the provincial coordinators located across the nation and know the process to avail the money.
The Minister has revealed that funds, intended for the development of the national aquaculture industry, will be beneficial for the small-scale fish farmers as it will facilitate them to preserve fish for selling into the local and global marketplaces.
Mr. Katambo has also stressed that the strategy forms a part of the Zambian President Edgar Lungus plan to make the country a fish exporter within the next 24-month period.
He added, We have received the $50 million loan from the AfDB and we are calling upon all small-scale fish farmers to visit provincial offices and get more information on how to access the loans.
Mr. Katambo has also revealed that his ministry has already implemented the decentralisation policy to allow farmers, who are keen to start fish farming business, get access to information from different provincial offices.
He has requested the small-scale fish farming community to visit the provincial offices to get the application forms so that they can avail loans.
Mr. Katambo has further stated that his ministry has permitted whistleblowers to inform any suspected case regarding its activities, and they will be fully protected for their jobs.
The Minister has emphasized that the whistleblowers should not hinge on rumors, rather they must submit their reports on facts.
Mr. Katambo has also said that they have permitted people to access offices as the new ministry works in a transparent way, and is open to different opinions to ensure development.
