United Kingdom : Alstom to introduce new EMU, launch CLever for UK's rail network
Publish Date : 13-May-2017
Alstom has announced it will introduce a new regional EMU platform for Britain at the 2017 Railtex exhibition, as well as launch its new CLever cantilever for the UK's rail network.
The company presented the new EMU design to the media on its stand at a session called 'A new EMU for the UK'.
Alstom said the train, with a modular design, would be comprised of between four and 11 carriages.
The company added that it had submitted the design as part of the FirstGroup bid for the Greater Anglia franchise.
But, the contract was offered to Abellio which elected to procure Flirt Trains from Stadler and a fleet of Aventra's from Bombardier.
Alstom, which currently targets the East Midlands and West Coast Partnership franchises for the vehicles, has earlier said there is potential to make trains at its new Widnes site in the future if order books justify the investment.
The technology facility and training academy in Widnes would be opened in the summer of 2017.
