Publish Date : 20-May-2017
Turkish defence engineering company Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik ve Ticaret (STM) and German shipbuilder ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) have agreed to partner on a bid to supply submarines to the Indonesian Navy (TNIAL).
The letter of intent (LOI) was inked during the 2017 IDEF defence exhibition in Istanbul, which ended on 12th May.
The Indonesian Ministry of Defence has not spoken on the deal, but a source said the STM-TKMS partnership is designed to meet Indonesias long-held ambitions to significantly expand its fleets of submarines.
The agreement woud see STM and TKMS co-operateing in offering Indonesia an industrial package through which one or two submarines would be built in Turkey and additional platforms constructed by Indonesian industry.
