Publish Date : 20-Jun-2017
African Development Bank (AfDB) expects Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and transport projects funded by bank last year to positively affect the living conditions of nearly 20 million Africans over the next few years.
The AfDB said this in the Annual Report of the Infrastructure, Cities and Sustainable Development Department of the bank, released on 9th June, 2017.
According to the report, $ 1.6 billion is the total amount of loans and grants that AfDB offered in transport and ICT in 2016.
This amount is assigned to 15 countries to fund a vast range of projects like global roads systems, railway lines, urban infrastructure and projects related to new ICTs.
It said with these new projects, the worldwide portfolio of transport and ICT projects being implemented rose to 118 in 47 countries, cumulatively worth US$ 11.8 billion.
Mr Amadou Oumarou, the Director of the Banks Infrastructure, Cities and Sustainable Development Department, stated: Transport and ICT play a pivotal role in the pursuit of the Banks five operational priorities, particularly in supporting industrialisation, regional integration, agricultural modernisation and the overall improvement of the living conditions of Africans.
