India: L&T Infotech Bags Two Indian Railways\' projects
Publish Date : 06-Jan-2010
L&T Infotech, a part of Rs. 40,000 crore engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro (L&T), bagged two major railway projects for computerizing the maintenance of rolling assets of Indian Railways. As per the project, the company would deploy its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and the underlying hardware for automating the maintenance of the two major rolling assets - wagon fleet and diesel locomotives.
The execution of these projects will involve creation of two centralized ERP-based applications; the freight maintenance management (FMM) for management of freight/wagon depots and loco-shed management system (LMS) for management of diesel locomotive sheds. Wagon maintenance depots are the front line units for the maintenance of wagons, and diesel locomotive sheds are the front line units for the maintenance of diesel locomotives on 24x7 basis. The new projects include installation, commissioning and multi-year on-going support of hardware and systems in the implementation.
The end-to-end System Integration (SI) projects were conceptualized and tendered by Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), the IT arm of Indian Railways.
