United States: NJT Awards Second Tunnel Contract
Publish Date : 08-Jan-2010
NJ Transit awarded the second of three tunnel-boring contracts in a $8.7 billion project that will double commuter rail capacity between New Jersey and Manhattan by 2017.
The $272 million contract, for about a mile of tunneling some 185 feet beneath the Palisades from North Bergen to Hoboken, went to PTP Constructors of Secaucus, a joint venture of Schiavone Construction of Secaucus; J.F. Shea Construction of Walnut, Calif.; and Skanska USA Civil Northeast of Stockholm, Sweden.
The first tunnel-boring contract, for the Midtown segment, was awarded in December at a cost of $583 million. The third and last, for the Hudson River segment, will follow next year. The project began in June with a $14 million contract to build a new railroad underpass in North Bergen.
