The economy of Gambia is driven by agriculture and tourism. About 75% of the population depends on crops and livestock for its livelihood. Peanuts are the main crop and a major export. Tourism infrastructure has been a major beneficiary of foreign direct investment (FDI). The major crops grown in Gambia are millet, groundnuts, sorghum, maize, rice, sesame, cassava and cotton. The Gambias 80 percent of exports consist of re-exports. The Industries that are flourishing in this region are: Processing peanuts, fish, and hides, tourism, beverages, agricultural machinery assembly, woodworking, metalworking; clothing.
