At the suggestion of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Tom Pet ek, the government approved on 31 October 2018 Afghanistan assistance of CZK 40 million in 2018. The funds are intended to support Afghanistan's development programs and Afghan National Defense and Security Forces. The aim is to help the country's security, political and economic stabilization.
"I welcome today's government's decision to aid Afghanistan in the amount of CZK 40 million for 2018, which means confirmation of our support for the security, political and economic stabilization of the country," said Minister Pet ek. In 2018, as in previous years, a contribution of CZK 20 million will go to the Afghan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF), managed by the World Bank. The second priority area is to strengthen security. To this end, the Czech government has released CZK 20 million to support the operation of Afghan National Defense and Security Forces through the Afghan Army Trust Fund (ANATF) and the Police (LOTFA).
The Czech Republic implements support to Afghan development programs through the ARTF Trust Fund, which is under the direct supervision of the World Bank and which is respected by the donor community as well as Afghan partners for its transparency and project efficiency. Its activities are primarily focused on strengthening self-sufficiency in Afghan society, including job creation and livelihoods. The Czech Republic has been cooperating with ARTF since 2014 and will allocate 20 million CZK for ARTF for 2018 with a focus on agriculture, rural development and education.
In the security area, the Czech Republic continues to support the operation of the Afghan National Defense and Security Force (ANDSF) in the amount of CZK 20 million. The contributions of the Czech Republic to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces contribute to the fulfillment of our Allied Commitments. The construction and training of the ANDSF is one of the main priorities of NATO and the wider international community in this country. The goal of the engagement of the Czech Republic and the international community remains the security, political and economic stabilization of Afghanistan.
