The Strategic Partnership between France and Romania, concluded in 2008, has strengthened the traditional ties of friendship between our two countries, based on historical links of exceptional richness, on common values, linguistic affinities and deep cultural diversity, as well as the willingness to engage together in a shared future within the European Union.
On this basis, ten years after the launch of the Strategic Partnership, firmly committed to continue their efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation between our two countries, France and Romania will jointly define and implement a new on the development of policies of common interest for the next four years.
Cooperation between France and Romania in the European Union
Romania is preparing to assume for the first time, in the first half of 2019, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. France will give her full support.
This Presidency will take place at a key moment for the future of the European Union, marked in particular by the renewal of the European institutions, the progress of work on the next Multiannual Financial Framework, the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union and the Informal Summit in Sibiu, which will outline the future strategic agenda of the EU (2019-2024).
In this perspective, our two countries are determined to work together, in a bilateral and European framework, to promote a Europe faithful to its fundamental values, more united, more sovereign and more democratic, a major player on the international scene. The functioning of the European Union is based in particular on the defense of the rules of the rule of law, on the national scene, in Europe and in the world.
In the current context, marked by a period of complex challenges for the European Union, Romania and France will seek to propose joint initiatives to strengthen the European project, convergence and socio-economic cohesion, as well as the deepening of integration within the European Union. Romania and France will support initiatives at European level that can contribute to strengthening unity among EU Member States and overcoming differences between East and West, North and South, benefit of all European citizens.
The two countries pledge to intensify their dialogue in the field of European affairs, both bilaterally and with other European partners, particularly in the trilateral format Romania-France-Germany.
Both countries wish to contribute to creating the necessary conditions for the European Union to remain an important and globally competitive player, including by promoting a "state of the art industrial policy" for the EU and the protection of Europe. our common interests in international trade negotiations.
In addition, by sharing the vision of cooperation based on sustainable development and increasing convergence and strengthening economic, social and territorial cohesion, the two States undertake to cooperate closely in order to stimulate the achievement of these objectives at European level, in a way that meets the expectations of all Member States and European citizens.
Romania and France will continue to discuss the consolidation of the Schengen area, and France will continue to support Romania's efforts to join this area.
The two countries will exchange on cooperation with the Eastern Partnership and Southern Neighborhood countries and will continue to work towards the process of internal reforms and strengthening the resilience of these countries to domestic and external threats. In this context, particular attention will be devoted to the European anchoring of the Republic of Moldova.
Bilateral cooperation
France and Romania announce today the launch, on the sidelines of the celebrations of the Centenary of modern Romania, of the France-Romania 2019 Season, which will take place during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Resolutely focused on the future, this Season will highlight innovation, artistic creation, youth, discovery, sharing, movement and the Francophonie.
Designed to strengthen the cultural, economic, scientific and societal ties that historically unite France and Romania, the Season will offer a renewed, dynamic and up-to-date image of our two countries, with three strong objectives: renewing the image and perception of both populations to one another by breaking stereotypes; to show the dynamism and imagination of the creators and companies of both countries; finally reaffirm our common commitment to a Europe of values, peace, ideas and cooperation.
