Publish Date : 29-Nov-2018

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith announced that the U.S. Federal Transit Administration will allocate a $74,008,000 Capital Investment Grant to the METRO Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. The Orange Line BRT will connect downtown Minneapolis with south Minneapolis and the cities of Richfield, Bloomington and Burnsville.

Our 21st century economy demands 21st century infrastructure, Klobuchar said. This investment will allow for greater mobility in the Twin Cities, giving residents more options to travel between work, school, and the areas many businesses and cultural institutions. This project will create good-paying jobs and spur additional investments in the regions economy.

This is great news for Minnesotas economic future, Smith said. The Orange Line BRT is not only an important investment in the regions transportation infrastructure and its economic development, but it also will connect hundreds of thousands of people each year to jobs, businesses and other opportunities across the Metro area. It represents a boost to our states quality of life.

This grant will fund construction of the 17 mile highway bus rapid transit project. The Orange Line will feature frequent, all-day service in both directions, seven days a week. This project will provide the residents and businesses along the route with a reliable transit connection to job centers throughout the region. The project includes highway improvements and upgraded station amenities for transit users.
