A Memorandum of Understanding on the Implementation of the Project "Help for Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Other Genetic Disorders in the Republic of Moldova" was signed today by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, AO Adventist Agency for Development, Rehabilitation, Help (ADRA) Czech Republic and AO "SOS Autism".
The project aims to increase the quality, availability and sustainability of services provided to children with autism and other genetic disorders, as well as training their families. The project will identify the needs and gaps in the legal framework on rare autism and genetic disorders and set priorities for Moldova. At the same time, the potential of local organizations and their involvement in the development of social services will be assessed, increasing the access of children with autism / genetic disorders to medical care and the correct diagnosis.
Similarly, an important focus will be on training medical workers, as well as strengthening the capacities of parents and carers through self-training and involvement. "At present, in our country, medical and social services are being developed. We have developed a regulation on the organization and operation of intervention centers for autistic spectrum disorders to be approved. With the support of the Czech Republic and AOS "SOS Autism" we will ensure at national level the development of specialized services for children and young adults in maximizing the potential of their physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and communicative development as well as improving the skills of medical and social personnel, who provides these services, "said Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection, Silvia Radu.
The representative of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in our country, Jan Husk, mentioned that the Czech Republic supports social projects initiated in the Republic of Moldova. Our goal is to improve the quality of life of people suffering from autism. The total budget of the Project is estimated to total EUR 720,000.00.
We mention that in the Republic of Moldova in 2017, the incidence of psychological development disorders, including TSA, constituted 246 persons, out of which 205 children, and the prevalence reached 1422 cases, of which 299 are children. At the same time in 2017, about 263 people, including 210 children, were classified as disabled on the grounds of TSA, during the year in psychiatric stations, about 181 people with TSA were assisted, with the absolute majority being children.
