United States : HOCHTIEF builds 14-kilometer power supply tunnel in Stockholm

Publish Date : 26-Dec-2018

HOCHTIEF and Implenia have jointly won the contract to build a 14-kilometer power supply tunnel for the Swedish capital. The client, Svenska Kraftnt (Swedish National Grid), awarded the contract, worth around 90 million euros, to the joint venture in which HOCHTIEF Infrastructure and Implenia have equal stakes. HOCHTIEF is the technical lead in the consortium.

The Anneberg-Skanstull Tunnel is part of the City Link project intended to improve the electricity supply in the greater Stockholm area. A tunnel-driving machine will be used to build the tunnel which has a diameter of five meters and will be located 50 - 100 meters below ground. The project also encompasses six ventilation shafts, elevators, and the construction of technical buildings for electrotechnical equipment. Completion is scheduled for 2024.

We are delighted that this contract in Sweden gives us another opportunity to demonstrate our tunnel-building expertise. We and our partner Implenia are looking forward to making a contribution to the expansion of the local grid, and to ensuring that Stockholms power supply is future-proof, says Klaus Grttner, Executive Vice President der HOCHTIEF Infrastructure GmbH, Europe West.

Winning this contract underpins our expertise in the area of demanding infrastructural construction and our already excellent local entrenchment. Together with our partner HOCHTIEF we will shortly begin tackling this electricity milestone, says Ren Kotacka, Head of Business Unit Infrastructure with Implenia.
