Peru : More than one million Peruvians will be benefited with the award of six regional broadband projects

With the aim of improving the quality of life of people with access to high-speed internet and digital services, the good pro of six Broadband Regional Projects was awarded for ncash, Arequipa, Hunuco, La Libertad, Pasco and San Martin.

These initiatives will benefit more than 1.1 million Peruvians from rural areas and social preference, as well as more than 3,300 public institutions such as police agencies, health establishments and educational institutions of 2,295 localities will access the Internet and high-speed intranet.

The financing amount of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the Telecommunications Investment Fund (FITEL) will amount to US $ 560,120 million and it is foreseen that these projects will begin operations in the first quarter of 2021.

For the ncash, La Libertad, Arequipa and San Martn projects, the Yofc Network Consortium won the tender. While for the regions of Pasco and Hunuco, the Bandtel Consortium will carry forward the initiative to bring the internet. Among the six locations, more than 9,500 km of optical fiber will be deployed.

It should be noted that the implementation of the transport and access networks will be supervised by the new National Telecommunications Program (Pronatel), ex Fitel, which will apply a monitoring methodology with accompaniment from the minute "1" of the start of works , with technical protocols defined a priori to generate greater predictability in the construction stage and avoid unnecessary delays.

In addition to the Internet and Intranet that is offered, WiFi points with free access will be installed in the squares of all the beneficiary localities. Digital Access Centers (CAD) will also be implemented in 441 beneficiary localities, which are places of attention, where Internet management service will be provided, there will be training rooms and also guidance for people to consult about their activities economic or commercial.

These six projects and the 15 in execution: Ayacucho, Apurimac, Huancavelica, Lambayeque, Cusco, Cajamarca, Tumbes, Piura, Lima, Junin, Puno, Moquegua, Tacna, Ica and Amazonas, add up to 21 Regional Broadband Projects that the State promotes to reduce the digital divide and generate greater opportunities for development throughout the national territory.

The massification of broadband will also reach the Amazon through the "Napo - Putumayo Project" and "Manseriche Project" that will be commissioned in January to Proinversin to start the respective promotion process. In addition, there is a third project, already declared viable, to be implemented in isolated areas of the Selva.
