The technical secretary of the Telecommunications Investment Fund (FITEL), Eduardo Canales, said that in the first quarter of 2019 the financing contracts of the new six regional projects of integral connectivity will be signed, which were tendered last December and will carry internet of high speed to the San Martin, La Libertad, ncash, Hunuco, Pasco and Arequipa regions.

During the meeting of the Permanent Multisector Commission to follow up on the "Peruvian Digital Agenda 2.0" (CODESI), Canales said that with the signing of the contracts for the new projects, the contractual obligations will begin and it is expected that these initiatives will be put into operation for the Bicentennial of the Republic, in 2021.

He informed that Lambayeque would start operations at the end of March, while for the second quarter they would Huancavelica, Apurmac and Ayacucho. Also, for the second half of the year we would have already activated the projects of Cusco, Cajamarca, Piura and Tumbes. All this, he said, is accompanied by the efforts being made by FITEL's technical team to supervise and will depend, finally, on the concessionaire companies to raise the technical observations that there may be, in order to safeguard the faithful compliance of the corresponding contracts.

In total, there are 21 regional projects to benefit more than 3.9 million inhabitants in 6,908 rural locations with high-speed internet services. In addition, more than 12 thousand public entities such as schools, health establishments and police stations will be modernized with access to cyberspace.

"The Regional Projects will be a pillar of the development that the country can achieve in the coming years, in terms of economic and social inclusion, having as a policy the promotion of the Information and Knowledge Society," Canales said.

In this regard, he said that training programs are provided oriented to the needs of the region. "These are according to the need and geographical reality; and social economy of the areas that will be benefited. It also reaches officials of public entities so they know how to use and take advantage of the benefits they will receive, "concluded Eduardo Canales.
