Publish Date : 26-Apr-2012

The Italian government announced the launch of a new measure, which anticipates the adoption of the DVB-T2 standard for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) reception equipment.

Both stand-alone and integrated decoders will have to be compatible with the DVB-T2 standard from 01 January 2015, and will be the only ones that can be sold on the Italian market from 01 July 2015.

As from 2015, te change has become necessary, the number of DTT frequencies will be lessen from 55 to 34, as part of the frequencies will be used for other communications requirements like 4G.

To continue adding new DTT TV channels, the Italian government has agreed to accept the DVB-T2 standard, which has the advantage of cramming, among other things, up to six channels in HD, compared with two with DVB-T.
