Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP today announced that Kim Harris, a senior government lawyer who most recently served in the White House as principal Deputy Counsel to the President and Deputy Assistant to the President, will rejoin the firm\'s Litigation Department as a partner. Her practice will focus on advising institutions and individuals in investigations by the U.S. Congress, the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other government agencies.
Prior to leaving government service, Ms. Harris served as principal deputy White House Counsel. During her tenure at the White House, Ms. Harris developed and executed the White House response to congressional investigations, advised senior Executive Branch officials on congressional investigations and executive privilege issues, managed litigation matters involving the President, and advised senior White House officials on a wide range of compliance and risk management issues and other legal matters.
From 1997 to 2009, Ms. Harris practiced in Davis Polk\'s Litigation Department, representing major corporations in all aspects of regulatory and criminal investigations. She was elected partner in 2007 and left the firm in early 2009 to become Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice\'s Criminal Division. She left that position in 2010 to move to the White House. Ms. Harris earned her J.D. from Yale Law School and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University.
Ms. Harris is the latest in a series of senior Washington lawyers to join Davis Polk in recent months, further reinforcing the firm\'s ability to help clients navigate complex investigative and regulatory challenges from the government. Earlier this year, the firm welcomed senior international trade lawyer John Reynolds III to its newly expanded DC office. In addition, Ms. Harris\'s arrival closely follows the hiring of Greg Andres, a fellow litigator and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Fraud and Appellate Sections of the DOJ\'s Criminal Division, who rejoined the firm in March.
\"We are delighted to welcome back Kim, whose unique and invaluable experience in the highest reaches of government further enhances her own remarkable skills and bolsters our already preeminent government investigations and enforcement practice,\" said Thomas J. Reid, Davis Polk\'s managing partner. \"Kim joins a long list of Davis Polk lawyers to return to the firm after government service, including many of our current litigators, who have held senior positions with the DOJ, the SEC, the White House and the CIA.\"
