The IFRRU2020 reached 100 contracts signed, which corresponds to an investment of 327 million euros for the rehabilitation of buildings and improvement of their energy performance.
On average, each week of this year, two IFRRU 2020 contracts are being concluded, which means a doubling compared to 2018 (one contract per week). The first quarter of 2019 thus ended with 314 applications submitted, with a total investment of 862 million euros, to be implemented throughout the country. The potential for evolution is very promising, with applications under analysis in 44 new Municipalities and 1135 framework opinions already issued by 117 Municipalities.
The projects in execution are located in the Areas of Urban Rehabilitation, delineated by the respective Municipalities, thus guaranteeing their alignment with the local urban policy. There are now 37 Municipalities in the various regions of the country with IFRRU 2020 financing: Abrantes, gueda, Amarante, Aveiro, Azambuja, Barreiro, Braga, Cascais, Coimbra, Condeixa-a-Nova, Covilh, Elvas, vora, Faro, Figueira da Foz, Funchal, Lisbon, Lous, Mafra, Matosinhos, Mirandela, Moita, Odemira, Oeiras, Pombal, Porto, Santarm, Santiago do Cacm, Santo Tirso, Silves, Sintra, Trofa, Viana do Castelo, Vila Franca de Xira, Vila Nova de Gaia and Viseu.
After rehabilitation, 43 of these buildings will have residential use, the remaining 45 being for economic activities, 3 for collective use equipment and 2 for social area. Most (60) the projects are promoted by companies, and the remaining ones by individuals, IPSS and Municipal Councils.
With these investments, it will be possible to create around 1500 jobs, set up more than 600 new residents and achieve a reduction in energy consumption that exceeds the consumption for two years of a large public hospital, thus promoting sustainable urban rehabilitation. IFRRU 2020 (a financial instrument of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Housing under Portugal 2020) is the largest urban rehabilitation incentive program launched in Portugal and has a financing capacity of 1,400 million euros, providing the best conditions for all those who intend to invest in the rehabilitation of urban construction.
