Big Data is the cornerstone of a nationwide campaign to increase the safety of law enforcement officers, and a new application is now being developed to make a substantial impact on safety policies. MarkLogic Corporation, the company powering mission-critical Big Data Applications around the world, today announced it will work in cooperation with the the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to develop a new application for The National Center for the Prevention of Violence Against Police. The application will analyze data gathered from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and other partners in order to spot previously unknown trends affecting officer safety nationwide.
The National Center for the Prevention of Violence Against Police was established in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance. Its mission is to prevent assaults against law enforcement by developing and disseminating actionable information to federal, state, and local law enforcement.
\"When deaths happen in the line of duty, it is extremely difficult for departments to discover if these losses share patterns with those in other jurisdictions. This information needs to be examined closely to find out what led to this death and whether a change in police policy can prevent a similar tragedy,\" said, Scott Brien, Project Manager, IACP. \"The application that MarkLogic is developing will help us to use technology to take this critical data from as many departments, agencies, and states as possible to look at it as a whole. This kind of research can uncover hidden trends in how and why police officers are injured and killed in the line of duty, leading to policy changes to enhance the safety of officers around the world.\"
\"The IACP\'s Big Data challenge is similar to many organizations in the public and private sectors,\" said Randall Jackson, vice president, MarkLogic Public Sector. \"The IACP has a huge collection of complex information internally and also coming in from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, but it needs a real-time application to find the answers in the data. With MarkLogic, organizations can easily and quickly build applications that query and share information from several sources scattered across an organization. In this case, it will enable the IACP to see all of their information at once, in order to drive faster, better decision-making to impact officer safety.\"
