Bell MTS will provide mobile wireless services for the Manitoba government and other public-sector organizations for up to five years, Finance Minister Scott Fielding announced .
When the previous contracts expired, we released a public tender for mobile wireless services to ensure we received the best value for taxpayers, said Fielding. We are improving the way goods and services are purchased because Manitobans are smart shoppers who expect government to do the same.
The minister noted the new group contract with Bell MTS will save the Manitoba government and other public-sector organizations up to $19 million over the next five years.
Each public-sector organization will enter into its own agreement with Bell MTS under the terms negotiated by the Manitoba government. Services will include:
wireless voice, data and roaming services;
smartphones, wireless data devices, sim cards for use in tablets and modems, and accessories; and
mobile broadband for first responders and public safety agencies.
Organizations that will benefit from savings include Manitoba government departments, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation, and Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation.
Fielding noted further savings are possible as existing devices transfer to the Bell network under the terms of the new agreement.
