Publish Date : 15-Nov-2019

DB Regio AG has signed contracts with Alstom and Siemens for the delivery of new vehicles for the won two lots of the awarding procedure "Netz 7b -Raum Karlsruhe". In total, the state of Baden-Wurttemberg is investing around 170 million euros in the new vehicles for this network. The contract with Alstom comprises 13 five-part and six three-part Coradia Continental vehicles for lot 1 "Karlsruhe network" (Karlsruhe-Bretten-Eppingen-Heilbronn, Karlsruhe-Rastatt-Baden-Baden-Achern, Karlsruhe-Rastatt-Forbach (Black Forest) -Freudenstadt-Bondorf-Herrenberg). Siemens will supply seven three-part new Mireo vehicles for Lot 2 with a new regional express service from Karlsruhe via Bruchsal to Heidelberg / Mannheim (Nordbaden-Express).

The new vehicles are procured by DB Regio AG on behalf of the Ministry of Transport Baden-Wurttemberg as the responsible authority for this network. After the delivery of the vehicles, these become the property of the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Wrttemberg (SFBW) and are leased to DB Regio for the term of the transport contract of 13 years. Start of operations begins at the timetable change in December 2022.

"We are pleased to be able to continue our partnership with Siemens and Alstom at the Karlsruhe network. Here a new basis for the strong rail is created for our passengers with new vehicles. The punctual registration and delivery of technically faultless new vehicles have become decisive criteria for a punctual commissioning and meanwhile also a guarantee of stability in competition in public transport, "said Frank Klingenhofer, Chairman of the Regional Management DB Regio Mitte.

On the part of the contracting authority, particular attention was paid to passenger comfort in the tender specifications: all vehicles are fully air-conditioned and equipped with free Wi-Fi connection for the passengers. They contain spacious multi-purpose areas for easy transport of bicycles, strollers and wheelchairs.

The vehicles are also barrier-free and equipped with a handicapped accessible WC. The trains will be designed inside and out in a uniform design. "Passengers in the Karlsruhe area can look forward to modern, reliable and reliable trains. Our trains are not only convincing to the passengers, but are also characterized by maximum reliability and availability, thus offering absolute planning security for the operators ". Jrg Nikutta, Managing Director of Alstom in Germany and Austria.

"With this order we already receive the third Mireo order from DB Regio in less than three years. In the future, our Mireo trains will be on the new regional express line ("Nordbaden-Express") and also as a regional train in the Rhine Valley and as an S-Bahn in the Rhine-Neckar region. The Mireo is characterized by its energy-efficient vehicle concept, which offers improved passenger comfort and sustainable value enhancement over the entire life cycle, "says Sabrina Soussan, CEO of Siemens Mobility.

The trains are manufactured by Alstom in Salzgitter and Siemens in Krefeld.
