Portugal : Tender for 643 network of electric vehicle charging stations launched
Publish Date : 02-Jan-2020
The Minister of Environment and Climate Action, Matos Fernandes, chaired the launch of the international public tender for the concession of the electric car charging network (Mobi.E network) in Lisbon. 643 electric vehicle charging stations were put up for tender for 10 years, to which may also be added 20 municipal posts.
The Minister said that the number of charging stations for electric vehicles would have to increase, as "it would be a disappointment if after only one year we were talking about these 643 posts and after two years we will certainly be talking about much more." Matos Fernandes also said that in 2018 more than 8,000 electric vehicles were sold and by the end of November 2019 more than 11,000 electric vehicles were sold.
The tendering stations are divided into 11 lots (each lot includes slow and semi-fast loading stations) and each competitor can have a maximum of three lots.
The president of Mobie.e, the public company responsible for the management of electric mobility in Portugal, Lus Barroso, said that the submission of applications ends by Carnival and that the contest should be concluded by Easter. The company also announced that charges for electric cars at public service stations will be paid. Charges for electric vehicles are currently paid for at fast charging stations and at normal charging stations in the private zone.
