Croatia : Croatia to purchase 21 electric trains
Publish Date : 06-Jan-2020
During this year, Croatia's state-owned railway passenger carrier HZ Putnicki Prijevoz (HZ PP) will be receiving 1.03 billion kuna ($150.5 million/134.5 million euro) to finance the purchase of 21 electric trains.
The European Union's Cohesion Fund have agreed to provide 85% of the sum, or some 880.3 million kuna, and the remaining is to be financed by the Croatian state budget.
Following signing of a financing deal, HZ PP is to announce an international tender for the purchase of 11 urban-suburban and 10 regional electric trains.
Earlier in 2014, Croatia's Koncar Elektricna Vozila, a subsidiary of local Koncar Group, signed a deal worth 1.63 billion kuna with HZ Putnicki Prijevoz for the delivery of 44 train sets. However, delivery of 20 electric and 1 diesel-electric trains were done back then, as a loan extended by the state-owned Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) only covered half of the price.
Between 2021 and 2024, HZ PP plans to procurement 7 diesel-electric and 12 electric trains. The purchase will be supported by financing from the World Bank and European organisation Eurofima.
