Switzerland : Edelweiss Air launches Alicante, Funchal and Tampa from Zurich; six Airbus fleet serves over 40 summer destinations

Although Zurich-based Edelweiss Air was integrated into Lufthansa Group in November 2008, it continues to have its own management and operates aircraft in its own distinctive livery, and codeshares with Swiss on almost all flights. During the last week, the airline has launched a number of new European routes as well as its only current service to the USA, with the introduction of twice-weekly flights to Tampa in Florida.
Founded in 1995, and previously belonging to Kuoni Travel, the airline carries around one million passengers per annum and currently has a fleet of six aircraft; four A320s, one A330-300 and one A330-200, all of which are leased from Swiss. Its summer schedule from Zurich is summarised in the following table.
