Indonesia : Bank Indonesia to announce new rules on bank ownership

Publish Date : 06-Jun-2012

The Indonesian central bank might be announcing new rules on bank ownership sometime this week or next, a senior executive said.

Bank Indonesia (BI) has said that the new rules being considered could cap holdings by a single investor in Indonesian banks at 40 per cent, down from 99 per cent currently.

Such a move would threaten DBS Group Holdings\' plan to acquire Indonesia\'s Bank Danamon, which is now 67 per cent owned by Temasek Holdings.

Mr Edy Setiadi, the executive director of the directorate of Islamic banking at BI, told reporters at the World Islamic Banking Conference in Singapore on Tuesday: \'Maybe this week or next week, early next week, there will be some new regulation coming from Bank Indonesia with regards to that.\'
