Japan : Tokyo projects economic impact of 2020 Olympic bid
Publish Date : 08-Jun-2012
Organisers of Tokyo\'s bid to host the 2020 Olympics said on Thursday bringing the games to the Japanese capital would generate economic activity worth US$37.9 billion (S$48.5 billion) and create more than 152,000 jobs.
The US$37.9 billion figure includes a US$21.1 billion economic benefit for the Tokyo metropolitan area and US$16.3 billion for the rest of the national economy.
\'The economic impact would be felt not only in Tokyo, but all across Japan, including areas affected by last year\'s natural disaster in northern Japan,\' Tokyo 2020 chief executive officer (CEO) Masato Mizuno said.
Tokyo\'s 2020 bid committee projects that 84,000 new jobs would be created in Tokyo and 68,000 elsewhere.
