Norway : €135 million rail tunnel contract to NCC

Norwegian contractor NCC has secured a contract worth a €135 million to construct a 4.8km rail tunnel to link Larvik with Porsgunn, 150km southwest of Oslo.

Norwegian National Rail Administration, Jernbaneverket, awarded the contract.

The contract comprises of the development of evacuation tunnels, raising the total tunnel work to 8.8km.

Construction is slated to commence in August 2012, and should be completed by June 2016.

For the Norwegian contractor, this is said to be the second tunnel project.

Earlier, in 2010, NCC Construction was awarded a contract to work on a rail tunnel linking Lysaker and Sandvika, outside Oslo.
