United Arab Emirates : AED 10.8 billion Abu Dhabi airport terminal contract signed

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has inked AED 10.8 billion deal with a joint venture which includes TAV, CCC, and Arabtec for constructing the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) at Abu Dhabi International Airport

The 700,000 square metre terminal building, is scheduled to open in 2017. Construction which is expected to start in Q3 of this year will be basically carried out in two stages, to involve a four-year construction phase, followed by a nine-month Operational Readiness Assessment phase.

HE Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman, ADAC said, \"Leading and supervising the delivery of this mega-infrastructure, while managing one of the fastest growing airports in the world, is a defining responsibility for the team.ADAC is looking ahead to an exciting five years of growth focusing on increasing traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport and on expanding the airport\'s infrastructure to support this growth.\"

MTB is being designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), along with Ove Arup, NACO and BNP Associates.

It will have a baggage system with capacity to handle more than 19,000 bags per hour and will be able to accommodate up to 65 aircraft including the Airbus A-380.

ADAC stated that the terminal\'s construction will require over 680,000 cubic metres of concrete, approximately 69,000 tonnes of steel and close to 500,000 square meters of steel and glass cladding.
