United States : LEICA GEOSYSTEMS secures scanning contract for NY/NJ Port Authority

Leica Geosystems has secured a contract to supply surveying equipment to survey and document accident sites.
Various products from the Leica Geosystems High-Definition Survey (HDS) line is to be supplied to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which would also include the ScanStation C10 and the Leica HDS70003D laser scanner. Also, Total station from Leica Geosystems will be used for scanning accident scenes in the region of the port authority.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey manages the New York/New Jersey major airports such as JFK and Newark marine terminals, the PATH rail transit system, and six tunnels and bridges connecting the two states.
According to Frank J. Hahnel, III, Leica Geosystems accident investigation accounts manager, with this equipment the authority will be in a position to raise the accuracy and scope of their investigations.
He added, \"Laser scanners enable law enforcement personnel to safely and efficiently map an accident scene so the roadway where it occurred can be quickly re-opened to traffic. Fast documentation of vehicle accidents is important for commerce because it keeps people moving toward their destinations.\"
The ScanStation C10 3D laser scanner has the capacity to capture a scene in 360 degrees, having a surveying range of 300 metres, through its all-in-one features of a laser scanner, tilt sensor, battery, controller, data storage, auto-adjusting video camera, and laser plummet.
