Singapore : HDB ties up with 2 companies to develop modelling tool for urban planning
Publish Date : 04-Jul-2012
The Housing Board has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with electricity utility giant Electricite de France (EDF) and environmental services company Veolia to develop a new modelling tool that simulates the built environment of a city and its impact on resource utilisation, environment, people and costs using a complex systems modelling technique.
A Housing Board spokesman said on Tuesday morning that the technique is seen to be better than existing simulation models because, among other things, it is able to analyse more complex scenarios. It will also be a decision-making tool that improves the Housing Board\'s planning and urban design strategies in enhancing the liveability of its towns, he said.
\'This model can provide planners, policy-makers, architects and engineers with a holistic perspective to identify the best combination of strategies in terms of urban design, technologies and social behaviour,\' he said.
The simulation tool is already being piloted at the Greenprint precinct in Jurong East.
