Australia : APLNG expansion project gets approval
Publish Date : 06-Jul-2012
As per the reports, Origin Energy and its partners have decided to go ahead with stage two of their $23 billion liquefied natural gas project in Queensland. The joint venture, also involving the US\'s ConocoPhillips and China Petrochemical Corp have agreed to expand their Australia Pacific Liquefied Natural Gas (APLNG) project in Gladstone to two trains, or processing units. APLNG consists of coal seam gas (CSG) fields in Queensland\'s Surat and Bowen basins, and a pipeline to an LNG plant being built on Curtis Island off the coast of Gladstone.
The expansion will double the project\'s expected LNG output capacity to 9 million tonnes a year. First production of gas is expected in 2015.
The APLNG partners also announced that China Petrochemical will lift its stake in the project to 25 per cent, from 15 per cent.
Origin managing director Grant King said, “As one of Australia\'s largest LNG export projects, the Australia Pacific LNG project stands to deliver significant value to Origin shareholders and to Australia, as well as jobs for the Australian community.â€
