Ecuador,United States : Parsons Airport Project Reaches Major Milestone
Publish Date : 04-Aug-2012
Parsons is pleased to announce that the new $460 million Quito International Airport in Ecuador welcomed its first commercial aircraft early last month. The test flight traveled a short distance from the existing Mariscal Sucre International Airport to the new airport and was part of Corporacion Quiport S.A.\'s overall preparations to open the new airport.
Parsons served as the program manager (PM) for the transition planning and execution to move operations from the existing airport to the new airport, which is currently under design/construction. As PM, Parsons was responsible for critical path schedule, commissioning plans, certification plans/procedures, and transition of operations.
The new airport has a 13,450-ft runway, making it the longest in Latin America. Positioned at 7,900 ft above sea level, the runway accommodates the high altitude in the Andes.
“We are pleased to have been involved in this major milestone for this important project,†said Tom Barron, Parsons Group President. “The new airport will help boost tourism and increase export opportunities in the region.â€
The new Quito International Airport is on schedule for substantial completion by October 2012.
