Sembcorp Marine Ltd on Wednesday said it has secured a US$4.032 billion contract to build 5 drillships from Sete Brasil Participacoes S.A.

The announcement came a day after rival Keppel Corp disclosed it had sealed a US$4.1 billion deal to build 5 semi-submersible rigs for Sete Brasil.

SembMarine said each rillship will be capable of operating at 10,000 ft water depth and drilling to depths of 40,000 ft, with accommodation facilities for a crew of 180 personnel.

The drillships are scheduled for deliveries between second quarter 2015 to second quarter 2019, and will be chartered Petrobras for 15 years after completion.
