The Ontario International Airport Authority is created in an effort to return the Southern California airport to local control.

The San Bernardino County airport is in the control of Los Angeles World Airports as well as the city of Ontario desires to dissolve a 1967 Joint Powers Agreement with Los Angeles.

In case if local control is offered, the authority will function the struggling airport 40 miles east of Los Angeles. It has lost approx 42% of its passenger traffic since 2008.

On Tuesday, Ontario City Council at night approved creation of the airport authority and nominated councilmen Alan Wapner and Jim Bowman to serve as members.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin said, the county is likely to accept the authority and appoint its member on 28th Aug.
