Publish Date : 28-Aug-2012
Solid waste operator Republic Services Inc has reached an agreement with Clean Energy Renewable Fuels to recover landfill gas from its North Shelby Landfill in Millington, Tenn., for multiple uses, which include as a vehicle fuel for its increasing natural gas-powered fleet.
Under the agreement, Clean Energy Renewable Fuels will construct the high-Btu facility to process landfill gas, a natural byproduct of decomposition, and pump it into the U.S. natural gas network. The gas may get compressed and distributed for a several different uses, including vehicle fuel and as renewable energy for other industrial uses.
In the first year of operation, the plant is expected to produce up to 4 million diesel gallon equivalents of renewable natural gas fuel. The production which may start in late 2013 is expected to gradually cross 5.7 million diesel gallon equivalents annually in the first decade of operations.
