A deal has been inked between the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the US government, contractor of a project in Ghana, Environmental Chemical Corporation (ECC).
Under the deal, General Electric (GE) will be providing technology and equipment for the $400 million water project in Ghana.
The project which aims to upgrade and restore the national water system in Ghana, has been funded by the US Export-Import Bank (Exim Bank) with ECC and GE [both from the US] as well as Ghanaian contractor, Engineering and Logistical Services Limited as partners.
The outgoing US Ambassador to Ghana, Donald Teitelbaum and Kweku Awotwi, Managing Director of the GWCL were present at the contract signing ceremony which took place in Accra. The contract covers eight main regions of Ghana.
ECC has stated : \"The technology being provided by GE will give the GWCL the ability to improve performance and product quality by reducing operating costs and by extending equipment life in areas where clean water distribution is limited or restricted.\"
ECC Vice President Richard Ebel, said : \"This effort will provide state of the art technology from GE to the highest priority areas of need through a partnership between our team and the Ghana Water Company Ltd.\"
The project is scheduled for launch this year and shall reach completion in 2018.
