According to TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®), construction is underway on the company’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus projects in Mississippi and New York. As a result, more customers will have access to high-speed Internet services.
In Mississippi, {TDS’ Calhoun City Telephone Company} TDS has hired Shippen Construction out of Missouri to do the outside construction work. The project is scheduled to be completed by year-end 2013. At that time, high speed Internet services should be available to nearly 600 customers in the Calhoun City area.
In N.Y., {Port Byron Telephone Company} TDS has hired NextGen out of Rochester, N.H. to do the outside construction work. The project is scheduled to be completed and accessible to customers by next summer. At that time, high speed Internet services should be available to about 160 customers in areas around Savannah/Port Bryon.
TDS is receiving funding for the project from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) as part of the ARRA.
