Japan,Jordan : THREE-firm consortium ink JORDAN power deal
Publish Date : 28-Sep-2012
Mitsubishi Corp., along with Korea Electric Power Corp. and Wartsila Development & Financial Services Oy, has inked a 25-year agreement to sell electricity to National Electric Power Co. (NEPCO) of Jordan.
In 2011, the three-firm syndicate was awarded the project and will construct and run a diesel engine power plant in the eastern part of the capital city of Amman. The plant will cost about $800 million (62.19 billion yen) and have a maximum production of 600 megawatts, making it the biggest reciprocating engine technology power plant across the globe.
Sales of power are likely to start in 2014.
The government of Jordan, facing an annual growth in electricity demand of 4-10 percent owing to economic rise, enacted a law in 2002 promoting the privatization of electric power and the realization of independent power producer (IPP) projects.
