Afghanistan : Afghan and Danish foreign ministers agree to develop long-term strategic partnership agreement

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Zalmai Rassoul met his Danish counterpart Mr. Villy Sřvndal on the margins of the 67th UN General Assembly in New York on September 26.
Dr. Rassoul strongly welcomed and accepted Denmark’s proposal to conclude a long-term strategic partnership agreement between Afghanistan and Denmark.
Dr. Rassoul underlined the Afghan government and people’s gratitude to the Danish government and people for their steadfast and generous contribution to Afghanistan’s security and development over the years.
“Denmark has been at the forefront of our peace, security and development efforts in Afghanistan for which we are sincerely and profoundly thankful,†Dr. Rassoul said.
Mr. SÅ™vndal said Denmark would “remain committed to our assistance and support to Afghanistan.â€
With nearly 700 soldiers supporting Afghan security forces in Kabul and Helmand provinces, Denmark has been a significant member of the International Security Assistance Force since 2003. The country has also so far provided a generous amount of $67208 million to Afghanistan’s reconstruction, economic and democratic development over the years.
