United States : Construction underway on ARRA stimulus projects in Ala., N.H., Va.

TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS) says construction is underway on four more American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus projects. The projects will expand broadband Internet services to more customers in Alabama, New Hampshire, and Virginia.
In Alabama, {TDS’ Peoples Telephone Company} TDS has hired Gibson Technical Services out of Ga. to do the outside construction work. The project is scheduled to be completed, by fall 2013, and accessible to about 1,200 customers in areas around Centre, Cedar Bluff, and Collinsville, Ala.
In New Hampshire, TDS has two projects and NextGen out of N.H. will do the outside construction work on both. TDS’ Merrimack County Telephone Company is now underway. It is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2013 and accessible to about 800 customers in areas around Bradford and Henniker, N.H. Work on TDS’ Kearsarge Telephone Company will begin soon. About 100 customers around Salisbury, N.H. will gain access to TDS’ high-speed Internet services once the project is completed, by summer 2013
In Virginia, {TDS’ New Castle Telephone Company} TDS has hired MasTec to do the outside construction work on this project. MasTec employees from the Roanoke, Va., office will be doing a majority of the work. By fall 2013, the project is scheduled to be completed and accessible to about 300 customers in areas around Paint Bank and Abbott, Va.
TDS is receiving funding for the project from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) as part of the ARRA.
