United States : COMMITTEE schedules a meeting for Oct. 18 to hear more about a $57 million WTP project

Publish Date : 10-Oct-2012

As the city moves ahead with what the mayor called as Fremont\'s largest public project ever, a meeting has been scheduled by Fremont City Council\'s utilities committee for Oct. 18 to hear more about the city\'s $57 million wastewater treatment plant (WTP) project.

Mayor Jim Ellis replied to questions on the contract during the council\'s regular meeting on Thursday. There was a first reading of the ordinance authorizing the deal with Cleveland-based environmental engineering company MWH Constructors, Inc.

Funds for the Water Pollution Control Center project will be received through the city\'s Sewer Improvement Fund.

Addressing the council, Ellis said approval of the ordinance wouldn\'t lend the mayor the authority to spend $57 million, which is an estimate of how much the project will cost the city. Ellis said he expects the final number to come in at less than that.

Ellis said : \"You will be approving the phases of the contract as the money is spent,\"

The new facility is being built as a collaboration between MWH and Mosser Construction.

The utilities committee meeting is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 18th at city council chambers.

According to Ellis, the city has fixed March 1, 2013, as an expected launch date for the project.
