United States : USAF awards four contracts to improve worldwide usage of GPS

The U.S. Air Force has taken up work to improve worldwide usage of the Global Positioning System (GPS) for military and civilian purposes. The Air Force announced four new GPS contracts, between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1.

Out of total four awarded contracts, three were in the range of $30 million, which includes contracts awarded to Rockwell Collins and L-3 Communications for testing and engineering of new GPS technology. Raytheon bagged a contract just under $30 million for developing receiver cards for GPS systems. Honeywell International bagged a $14 million contract for engineering services related to GPS.

Usage of GPS maintained by the Air Force, spans from civilian car navigation to targeting for military weapon systems.
