Leighton Holdings has received a contract to build the first proton cancer therapy centre in Saudi Arabia. The contract is worth US$74 million.
Middle Eastern joint venture of Leighton, Habtoor Leighton Group received the contract to take up the construction of the centre at King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh in a 50/50 joint venture with Al Latifia Trading and Contracting.
Within a month, this contract is the second healthcare deal won by Habtoor Leighton in Saudi Arabia. Earlier in September, the company had received a US$316 million deal with Al Latifia Trading and Contracting to construct new medical centres.
According to Jose Antonio Lopez-Monis, Habtoor Leighton\'s new managing director, the proton therapy centre would provide access to the best cancer treatment technology in the world to Saudi Arabia as well as neighbouring Gulf states.
