Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is pleased to announce that the private equity transaction in which it advised Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) in its investment in Nairobi Java House has been selected by Africa investor (Ai) for its Venture Capital/Private Equity Deal of the Year award. The Ai awards are the longest-standing international awards in Africa to reward exceptional business practices, economic achievements and investments across the continent. The ECP/Java House deal was announced in May.

ECP, based in Washington, D.C., was the first private equity group to raise more than $1.8 billion for investment in companies across Africa. Its purchase of a majority stake in Java House was subsequently the first private equity transaction in the restaurant sector in East Africa. Java House, founded in 1999, is Kenya\'s leading café and casual dining restaurant operator.
